Happy Father's Day!
We
celebrated it yesterday here in Guatemala, where a lot of the men get the day
off usually, but because it was a Saturday they missed that this
year. Hope you all have a nice day with family, we love you and are
thinking of you all.
I am in
charge of putting together the Stewardship report for the Clinic. We do
it once a month and it consists of a lot of pictures and some words explaining
them. Then it is sent out to about four different people associated with
the Clinic and a copy is placed in a looseleaf at the Clinic for future
reference. I realized as I was working on it that May was a pretty busy
month for us. Aimee Bovee, a lady from Nevada, helped at our front desk
for a few months and her last day was in May. Her husband, son and she
lived here for two years because her husband worked for a company here.
We now have a young Guatemalan named Andrea helping Ellen in the front.
Andrea was serving a mission in Mexico when she developed problems with
her back and had to come home. When she was ready to return but her
Mission President told her he felt she shouldn't come back. She is in the
process of being called as a Service Missionary and will help us for about 18
months. She was feeling bad about not being able to serve so this is good
for her and us!
We had two
volunteer groups come in May, 19 hygienists from Texas and two weeks later Dr.
Brown from St. George with five of his staff. We also had two Jornadas,
(don't pronounce the J). That is where we pack up our portable X-ray machine
and some other dental stuff to do exams and go to a Stake Center where they
have the young men and women come that are getting their mission papers ready
to submit. They usually have some Doctors there also. One stake had
a photographer to take the pictures for the kids to attach to their papers and
just in case they didn't look their best, they had a beautician to give them a
haircut. This Stake also cooked hamburgers and fed the YM & YW lunch.
At some Jornadas they also do dental work, but they had so many kids to
check out we didn't have time for that. Our Jornadas were in
Quetzaltenango and Amatitlan.
Rich Call
was also here in May. He is the guy from Colorado that helped us with
information about this mission so we could decide if this is what we wanted to
do. He oversees this Dental Clinic and also one in the Philippines and is
working on getting one in Ghana, Africa. He stayed with us for a week.
I didn't realize we did so much last month, maybe because we enjoyed it
all and all the people we were with.
This is a cacao tree where the cocoa bean
comes from and guess what comes from the cocoa bean?
Someone said something about being
yourself unless you can be Captain America, then be Captain America. Was
that you Martin? or was it Laren?
Our dental staff in May: Dad and me,
Amiee Bovee in white, Ellen in black, and Trudy and Jay Harris.
I am holding a little lizard that our
neighbor brought home to nurse back to health. Her husband is a
Veterinarian and a lady in her ward had this lizard as a pet for her kids.
It was lethargic and dying, so MaryLou (yes, same name as Grandma Lou)
brought it home and now it is spry and healthy. I had to hold onto it so
it wouldn't get away.
Have
a good week everyone! And Happy Birthday to Autumn today and Lydia on
Saturday!! We love you!!!
MOM, Grammy
